Since I wrote my last blog, Ravens brass have kicked the interview process into high gear. Almost immediately after the announcement of Billick's firing, Bisciotti, Ozzie Newsome and others were burning up the phone lines seeking references and gathering information on the various candidates.
Since Friday of last week, six men have been interviewed: Jim Caldwell of the Colts, Tony Sparano and Jason Garrett of the Cowboys, Brian Schottenheimer of the Jets, Rex Ryan, and John Harbaugh of the Eagles. Other names have been tossed around too: Rob Chudzinski took a contract extension with the Browns, thus removing his candidacy. Marty Schottenheimer might interview (if that happens I look for it sometime the middle of this coming week). Don Banks of SI.com seems rather enamored of the idea of the Ravens offering draft picks to the Bengals for Marv Lewis!
Trade draft picks for Marv Lewis? Yes he had a good relationship with the Ravens before he left. But the Ravens simply can not afford to lose ANY draft picks, especially not for a coach with a less-than-stellar track record. The Ravens are rebuilding and need as much help as possible.
Dallas lost to the Giants on Sunday and Garrett had a second interview with the Ravens on Monday. The clock is ticking and I can't help but wonder if the end of the process is in sight.
