Kool-Aid Shortage
The Buccaneers are running low on kool-aid at One Buc Place. Quick! Re-load! Re-load!
Last night was another display of poor football. Forget the excuse that it is pre-season, that this time is focused on evaluation rather than success. This team is clearly not ready for the season.
Sans a few bright spots on each side of the ball (see: Kevin Carter and Jeff Garcia) this team has yet to show much improvement on either side of the ball. The defensive line continued to struggle to consistently create pressure from the front-four. The offense, as a whole, still seems stuck in neutral - just waiting for a push.
The only hope that this team has are in its vested veterans. Newcomer Kevin Carter seems to have a motor and an ability to create pressure with his mix of speed and strength. Quarterback Jeff Garcia looked impressive while battling not only the Jacksonville defense, but, miscues and penalties from his own teammates.
Rookie Gaines Adams continues to "pee the bed" at the NFL level. While Adams displays excellent speed and a strong desire to succeed, he has yet to really make his mark. Adams has proven to be ineffective against bigger and stronger lineman. If Adams is not able to create an effective rush off the edge he is taken out of the play, he has not shown the ability to cut back inside due to a lack of strength. He also has not been able to read run versus pass just yet, often times running right past the play. In addition, we have yet to see Adams get significant time with the first team defense. Adams spends a majority of the game playing with the second and third units, while situational-rusher Patrick Chukwurah takes first unit reps.
It is going to take a lot of Kool-Aid and gusto to get fans thinking playoffs this year. Gruden should be at Publix stocking up.
