What is the first thing that comes to your mind when you hear the words Seattle Seahawks? Steve Largent, Kingdome, Super Bowl Loss, Qwest Field, Alexander’s Record TD Season! Honestly, it is all those ingredients wrapped up in one, with a sprinkle of some 12th man, and wha-lah you have Seattle Seahawk al-a-mode.

Opening day for the Seahawks is a preseason game in San Diego against last seasons 14-2, AFC West Championship Chargers. This game in no way, shape, or form will be an all out mid season free for all of defensive schemes, or big name iconic players like LT and Alexander putting up huge numbers. You most likely not see them in for more than one offensive series of downs.

Mostly you will hear the 12th man fans cheering for their new found love of this years rookies, one seems to find interest in those from their hometown, state, or alma mater; none-the-less, they will have something to cheer about only for the simple reason that this is football season, and just that alone is what we all gather here for, football in it’s entirety. In this preseason opener one needs to look at the match-ups between rookies, first, second and third year players. Seattle has boasted fairly well with an odd round of picks this year, finding three key components to most likely shine within their 52 man roster.

Round 2, Selection 55 for Seattle comes out of Maryland Terp country, Josh Wilson a 59 188 pound Corner Back. His blazing speed of a 4.28 this past spring in the 40 easily interprets into a versatile player, not only will we see Josh covering wide outs, but at the same time watching his amazing ability to return punts and kickoffs (28.1 avg. Collegiate). At Maryland this star helped the Terps with over 150 tackles, 20 plus pass deflections, and 3 picks. His concentration in studies pertaining to business marketing shows a great head on this young mans shoulders, this most often leads to strong locker room presence, upbeat personality for team moral, and a never say die attitude, which carries from off field to on field self reliability. Watch this player, Josh Wilson; I predict with his nasty nature for hitting, fierce ability to get to the highest point will be a strong part of the Seahawks rotating corners.

Round 3, pick 85 shows us strength needed on the defensive line, which this beast of a playmaker in Brandon Mebane hails from California University. Standing in at 61 305 pounds Mebane adds his quick acceleration a 5 second flat 40 time, and great awareness, which will make up for his small stature. Brandon was an All Pac 10 first team conference player, along with All American 3rd team honors. This man caused 109 tackles, 14 sacks, one fumble, one fumble recovered, and over 100 yards in losses on just over 16 attempts. A future force in Brandon Mebane comes with his low center, well balanced, 21 inch vertical and extremely strong legs; as well as his broad upper body full of highly intense strength. Mebane in high school was also a fullback who recorded five rushing TD’s, and was named three-time All City, All Central City, and All League in Los Angeles-Crenshaw.

While watching the Seahawks first preseason game in San Diego, you may want to keep your eyes fixed on these players to make their moves. Jennings-CB, Kent-WR, Burleson-WR, Weaver-FB, Herring-OLB/CB.
